another topic regarding top schools and neighborhood schools:

basically i dont' know what to say about it. most people there seem to agree that only the raffles family and tchs family are the creme de la creme. ..

and where has Anglo Chinese School (Independent), Singapore Chinese Girls School, River Valley High, Methodist Girls School, CHIJ Saint Nicholas Girls School, Saint Joseph's Institution gone?

substandard schools, trying to gain a share of the big circle. quote some writers at icered.

neighborhood schools rise to the challenge. it's totally erupting into a war and i don't know what to say. i do not believe there is an intellectual gap between the rafflesian and the neighbourhood school guy she is dating.

it's really quite justified why some 'top-schoolers' think as they do. does anyone ever see a rafflesian sprawled on the lap of some tchs guy? or a nanyang girl sitting on a rafflesian's lap?

if anyone has, too bad -- i've never seen any. on the contrary it's not too uncommon to see some really shameless girl from a neighbourhood school making herself comfy on a guy's lap at some void deck. or some girls tagging behind a bunch of guys for no apparent reason other than to watch them play basketball.

i'm not putting down any neighbourhood schools, i'm putting down the individuals who do this. yet generally i'm sure a lot of neighbourhood school students assume that students from the raffles family or tchs family look nerdy, have thick glasses and buck teeth, complete with a hunchback from carrying too many books, no?

it really makes me want to laugh. ever seen any of the top schools' girls or guys? look at some of the girls from rgs and nanyang. and tell me they aren't pretty. please.

and we are desperate for a bf or gf? not all of us are. of course i have a few friends who are, but i can tell anyone in all seriousness that no one is really desperate. if the chance arises, it arises. otherwise why do you think we get into these schools?

get in by the backdoor? don't make me laugh. my friend is in rgs. do you think that her dad paid a few million bucks to get her in? if you think so you are dead mistaken. people from top schools are filthy rich snobs? she lives in a hdb flat, and her dad doesn't own a car either. there are hundreds more rafflesians like her.

if we get in by our academic results, we are good -- academically. i think that should be undeniable. yes, neighbourhood school students are not unintelligent. i have a few friends who failed to make it just because they were simply unconcerned about the word 'psle'.

yes, i think some acsi guys do act poser and grab the mgs girls. (no offense to ian.) but are all of them like that? it's because of too many individuals with the same character quality in this certain school so we lump them together and classify them something.

but is it really accurate? everyone thinks acsi guys are poser, spike up their hair and act cool. not all of them are like that. everyone thinks rgs girls are 'cheem' and talk big words for the sake of acting big or something. HELLO? we speak in mostly accurate english because we are used to it!

and not because we want to act angmoh! don't assume such things. even if we want to act angmoh, so what? english is the language of foreigners and it is good to speak it well and fluently! we are not aliens, if we are used to speaking like that i don't see how we can be blamed.

maybe some girls are really desperate. but i dont' see any reason in labelling kc a despo school. i dont' think the whole school is the same! is anyone suggesting that a school is just a whole bunch of clones? everyone's character is definitely different.

top schools may not succeed later in life. but don't take for granted we are not streetsmart. some of us grew up on the same things as you neighbourhood school students did. don't assume we are uglier than you, and less streetsmart, only booksmart.

let me tell you. it goes far beyond looks. how long can good looks last? 20-30 years, at the most i can think of? and how long can intelligence last? the answer is: a whole lifetime.

pretty but no brains: BIMBO.
ugly but intelligent: capable.

decide which is better, will you? when your good looks fade we can always decide who has the last laugh.

also, i do not believe that all top schools make up the top percent of the so-called 'elite' in singapore. yes, maybe they do. but neighborhood schools stand an equal chance if they strive for it.

it all depends on the individual's priority, and determination.
