267; SMUN WHO 2007!
Sunday, June 10, 2007

(this entry is longggg. it's about four thousand words. read! it's exciting, emotional and fun! just like you readers!)

i just had my lunch. i felt famished since the last proper meal that i had was yesterday's lunch at one at nus smun conference.

the amazing camp with amazing rockers and memories.

(:

naturally, i shall be writing about it today.

DAY ONE

i admit that my initial thoughts about the camp were rather mean. i guessed it's going to be pure boredom and that i was super idiotic to have volunteered for it when alex tan talked about it in history class.

i got posted into world health organisation, as south africa delegation, with rachel as my partner.

it turned out to be fun! like totally.
why? after the opening ceremony and we proceeded into the committee meetings, rachel and i, delegates of south africa, were sitting in the sphere of fun and rocking peeps! (:

in front of us were delegates of egypt and denmark. as the first conference meeting progressed, we became fast friends and got to know tallie, lee kee, jayne and fritzie of victoria junior college! they're such fun people! like totally!

(:

went for teabreak together before the next committee meeting progressed. had two hours to bathe and proceed to dinner before we had our orientation! we actually went to fritzie's room to talk.

her room was biggest since it's a double room but she's the only occupant. so lucky! (:

i found out that they're smart, intelligent and brilliant! god.. they're taking hell subject combos. four H2s, 1H1 and 1H3. that's crazy!

tallie's taking H3 chemistry. lee kee and fritzie's taking H3 physics. i forgot to ask jayne though. i want to follow tallie's footsteps in taking H3 chemistry! though she's strongly against it.

i'm sooooo going to reconsider. but i loveeee chemistry. (:

the orientation was a teeny-weeny bit boring. okay, actually, it was very boring. but it didnt matter, cause i was busy laughing and joking with fritzie and jayne.

then the group proceeded into wacko. the game that i dislike most cause the one being the 'whacker' will be so embarrassed trying to tap someone. furthermore, our group was so big and we barely knew each other's names!

i shared this opinion with fritzie and she agreed. i came up with a brilliant idea! to go to the toilet! fritzie also wanted to go relieve herself so we went together.

it was a good thing, cause it was so far. perhaps we took the wrong turn or something, we wandered three blocks away and landed on the seventh floor when our committee coordinator said that it's on the forth floor.

during our LONG travel to the toilets, we talked about everything under the sun! (:

cca, school, interests and stuff. turns out, fritzie's a dancer! so cool! (:

we took our time walking. both didnt want to go back and get humiliated playing wacko or seeing others get humiliated. it's not a nice feeling. for me, that is, and fritzie too.

by the time we got back to the group, lee kee and rachel were wolf-whistling at us. ideas of us liking each other starting springing up, voiced by tallie and jayne. so lame! (:

we're just friends! camps being wonderful friends together!

the group went on a little walk around nus campus. halfway, we got lost, thanks to the coordinators, cause they forgotten the path. laughs!

by the time we found the correct route, we were so tired that we just took a shuttle service.

turns out, our group were behind schedule. the other groups were back in their hostel rooms, relaxing and bathing! not fair! had a simple debrief, where we voted for mr and ms smun who 2007.

laughs. anyway, fritzie and i suggested that we go to 7-eleven. we stopped at the bus stop cause we didnt know how to go there. after a while, i pointed out that we could just walk and explore and have fun!

guess what lee kee said?

'go with fritzie la. have a special time together!'

azri ROARS! so mean! we're just friends and cause of that long toilet trip, they've made us into an item. i found it super funny though. anyway, after loads of failed persuasion, fritzie and i gave up and went to seven-eleven together. we granted them their ultimate wish! happy?

(: laughs.

bought some drinks and food and headed back to eusoff hall, which is our residence! it's cool! though my room is pretty stuffy and has a tinge of axe oil. i combated this smell by dousing the room with sunflower fragrance. it smelt so much better after that.

had a long, warm bath. then went to fritzie room to play cards. i went for a while before getting back to my room and working on a speech for the following day's conference. wanted to go back, but i fell asleep!

mannnnn. jayne fell asleep too!

missed one night of play.

DAY TWO

had three conference meetings today. it was starting to get interesting. we were playing politics. like, passing important notes to delegations from other countries to ask for alliance and partnerships, that kind of thing.

another thing was that, south africa delegation, that is me and rachel were starting to play our role more actively. we started going forward to talk and raise critical issues that were important in improving and alleviating the situation in developing countries.

we got to know another pair of rockers! the delegation from germany! goldie and natasha from catholic junior college! wheeee!

they introduced south africa, egypt and denmark delegations to this working paper that they were working on. goldie was doing the explanation and boy, she's good. not saying this cause the other delegations were bad. everyone was good okay? anyway, she talks fast, persuasively and by the time she finished, we were hooked to the plan.

we also made new friends!

after all three meetings, a shower and changing, it was social night! man.

we all heard that it's uber boring. but the main thing we were all against was that, we had to be dressed in purple, cause the theme for the night was 'purple rain'! darn. why couldnt it be 'green rain' or 'blue rain'? a bit abnormal and rather inappropriate, but hell, i'd wear green or blue on any day!

cause they're my favourite colours! (:

lee kee turned up in purple v-neck tee with a white tie and jeans. tallie wore an off-shoulder purple striped white blouse and jeans, if i recall correctly. jayne pranced around in a purple sleeveless dress. okay, i'm kidding. she was walking. not prancing. laughs. fritzie didnt wear anything purple. she came in a top and brown skirt plus a really cool headband.

they looked hot, hot, hot! sadly, we didnt take a picture together on social night.

however..

rachel and i were in purple tees with jeans.

so i guess, it's somewhat a good thing that we didnt take a picture together since we looked so 'ten dollars' compared to jayne, tallie, lee kee and fritzie who looked like a 'million dollars'. so depressing.

went to the hall and we were randomly seated by this balloting method. you're allocated a number and then proceed to the seat with the corresponding number and wait for your unknown partner to come.

i got the world health organisation's press corp member from jurong junior college. we clicked! yes! talked and talked. the social night was rather boring la.

went back to my room. jayne came over. huiqun, wanyi, tallie and lee kee also dropped by. they played some card games. i was much too engrossed in playing some mobile phone game on wanyi's phone. guess what game it was?

GARFIELD!

laughs. it's damn cute. after getting tired of the game, i didnt feel up to playing card games, so i joined goldie and natasha outside who were working on their working paper.

then jayne came by and natasha said the cutest thing.

'you want some mee goreng? but it's a bit cold. or you want some prata? but it's a bit soggy.'

ahahahs. i was laughing like mad. (:

that night, i felt pretty exhausted, so i asked lee kee to drop by in the morning to make sure that i wasn't dead with sleep in my bed.

DAY THREE

woke up amazingly early given the fact that i was so exhausted from the previous day. bathed, opened the door and i sat down at the desk. i had no idea what happened in the next thirty minutes. next thing i knew, lee kee grabbed my neck.

i had fallen asleep on the desk! god. so embarrassing. thank god lee kee came over. wonder what time i'd wake up if i continued sleeping there.

the day's committee speeches started becoming bitchier. i guess a lot of national pride and interest were at a high point and we all started lashing at each other.

by the time the committee sessions ended, we formed an alliance. our side had twelve countries and the other side had another twelve. that night, our alliance met at university hall to discuss and formulate a game plan.

tallie and lee kee left early to celebrate a friend's birthday. i left early to meet huiqun to buy some toiletries from 7-eleven and also some food.

when i got back to university hall, they were in the heat of discussion. okay, maybe i should mention countries on our side. brazil, south africa, denmark, switzerland, nigeria, germany, japan, cambodia, vietnam (pending) and cuba (pending).

jayne became my laughing partner. okay, we've been laughing partners since the conference started, laughing at anything, irregardless of whether it made sense or not. we're the bundle of happiness in the group. lee kee and tallie's the bundle of seriousness. while fritzie and rachel's the bundle of craziness!

we rock!

back to the discussion. something extraordinarily funny happened. michelle, delegate from japan, a student of nanyang junior college, saw this ant. the ant was huge! she whispered to natasha who's beside her. the moment the ant crawled onto one piece of paper, all hell broke loose.

she and some others were sitting on this step. jayne, me and some others were a step lower, obviously. the ant was on our step.

michelle just jumped from her step and pulled natasha down with her. michelle landed on all fours, while natasha was almost flattened on the floor, and started crawling after the ant and expelling huge gusts of air from her mouth and throwing her head all over the place, getting her hair messed up, with hopes of blowing the ant away.

(:

her actions were hilarious! everyone laughed! jayne and i laughed beyond control. it was sooooo comical! if my description is too vague, call me! we'll meet and i'll give you a visual treat of her actions. (:

michelle was so angry at me and jayne for laughing. but we couldnt help it. jayne was claiming between laughs that it was so sad that lee kee and tallie missed it. i agreed heartily, also between laughs.

want to know who's this michelle and jayne?

the girl in the centre is michelle. on the extreme right is jayne! we rock!

soon the discussion ended and jayne and i went back to shower.

as we walked from university hall to eusoff hall reception lobby, we were laughing at everything. the image of michelle and her fiasco of blowing the ant away was a great catalyst for our laughing spree! ((:

on the way back to the room from the reception lobby, we crashed into lee kee and tallie and their whole group of twenty plus friends from victoria. told them what they missed.

they told us to give a performance. i was tad reluctant cause i didnt know them except for tallie and lee kee. embarrassing you know. but i was pretty high. so i did the exact thing michelle did.

we all burst out laughing. we didnt bother suppressing our laughter although it's beyond the time for noise curfew. they said i brightened the whole camp for them. SO SWEEET! i just love making people laugh!

((:

fritzie was angry at us for leaving her and rachel. but we didnt know they were behind us cause we were too busy laughing like maniacs as we headed back. after showering, then met at my room and talked while waiting for tallie and lee kee to finish their friends' birthday celebration.

they came over after an hour or so waiting. we went up to jayne's room and knocked until she woke up. called rachel. and we all went down to my room to play cards.

then we took a walk and got some drinks and sat down and talked. lee kee launched into this iq game. it's not really intelligent. so i renamed it bq. bimbo quotient game. it's really idiotic. but fun!

at one point of time, jayne and i launched our laughing missiles. couldnt stop laughing. we just went on a laughing rampage and lee kee said our laughter sounds like donkeys! so MEAN!

but we don't care, do we jayne? we continued laughing even harder when he said that! when we did, even tallie, fritzie and lee kee started laughing with us. only rachel remain immune, with the exception of giggles here and there.

about five, we went back.

imagine. five in the morning! i packed a little bit and refused to sleep. i knew that i'd oversleep.

but i did sleep! without any alarms! thank god i woke up forty-five minutes after.

DAY FOUR

bathed and exited the toilet to see a really dead lee kee. he looked like he'd rather crawl to the toilet than walk there to conserve whatever energy he's got left.

i packed my bag and bid a silent goodbye to the room. felt emotional cause i had to say goodbye to friends today. no longer meeting for breakfast, no more playing card games together and stuff.

anyway, this is what happens when you had only about forty five minutes of sleep.

i fell asleep while writing a report. can you imagine it! rachel happily took this picture before waking me up. so embarrassing. the second picture is jayne, in a remarkable interesting position. (:

committee meetings grew ten times rougher and nastier. the two divisions were going all out to cut each others' throats. i felt really overwhelmed. i didnt want the last day to go like this.

however, we did digress to take some more pictures. (:

the smun rockers! back row - rachel, me, fritzie. front row - jayne, tallie and lee kee.

me and the delegates of denmark! they're jayne and fritzie!

rachel and i, the delegates of south africa!

the delegates of egypt. tallie and lee kee!

so that was how it went until lunch. we ate and all. then i said silently that i had to leave early for a function.

i started crying. like really bawling my eyes out, except i covered my face cause i was embarrassed that i had to break down like that in front of five others.

i just hated the fact that we had to separate. what's more, huiqun said that in all her experience of camps, none of the friendships lasted at all. i just could not say goodbye to tallie, lee kee, fritzie, jayne, goldie, natasha, filza, amalina, michelle, weng, radhika, daniel and all. it was really painful.

we went back in to the room. after about fifteen minutes, it was time. i raised my hand, and heart thumping and eyes brimming with tears, the chair acknowledged me and said i could leave.

as i got up i said to tallie and the rest of the rockers nearby;

'i got to go guys. thanks so much for everything. i..'

those dots were actually 'love you guys' but they didnt come out cause i started crying again.

i was about to exit when the chair said that i have to leave and asked the floor to say bye. everyone did.

the research expert wanted me to laugh a final time cause he found it so funny. laughs. who doesnt find a laughter that goes hee-hee-hee weird and funny. laughs. not complimenting myself here. just the truth.

i was again about to leave before the secretary general wanted me to give some sort of speech.

i went to the centre and said.

'i'd like to thank everyone for this amazing camp.'

my voice started to choke up.

'for all the friendships and memories.'

i lost it. i just cried. in full view of everyone. i was literally sobbing. i guess it was all the emotions and the thing huiqun told me that friendships built over camps don't last was like on repeat mode in my head. it served like a nasty jab into my heart everytime i thought of it. but everyone cheered, clapped or screamed in shock.

research expert natalie came over and placed a hand on my shoulder. i cried even harder. i couldnt take it. i just turned and left.

natalie followed me to the bus stop. took the shuttle to eusoff hall and got my bag. i was crying throughout. from barely acknowledging each other, we've become close friends. bonded even.

at the lobby of eusoff hall, i just stood there and cried.

reached home and hugged my mom and cried. i seriously didnt understand why it affected me so badly. i guess it's cause it was the first camp that i had such close friendships and it's painful to acknowledge the end of the camp. even more disturbing to acknowledge the fact we might lose contact.

my mom said that a friendship can last as long as we put in effort in maintaining and treasuring it. she said that as long as my friends were sincere about the friendship, it'll last, no matter what.

then rachel sms-ed me.

'germany wanted to run up to you and hug you when you cried. and everyone was asking why you left. everyone misses you. now, the five of us (fritzie, leekee, tallie, jayne and rachel) feel that it's so quiet without you.'

i cried even harder.

everyone's sms was so sweet. fritzie, lee kee, tallie and rachel all sms-ed. they were similar. we shall all meet. missing the camp and all. it's really nice to know that they share the same sentiments as me.

today, radhi sms-ed me, saying that me breaking down got her thinking about the friendships that were built over camp. she said something similar to what my mom told me. that friendships last if there's effort and sincerity.

i love them. all of them. for the great friendships, memories and fun times that we shared. it's true that we wanted to cut each other's throats during the meetings, but the important thing is that, that was work. i mean really. everyone agreed that we could feel that we were working as delegates. it evolved from merely staging a role, to placing ourselves in the position seriously.

however, these things i'm talking about refer to friendships, a totally different element.

i pray that the friendships last and that we'll be friends forever. then huiqun and i can erase the mindset that friendships built over camps don't last.

i want the friendships to last. please.

yesterday, after a little function at my aunt's place that was another heart wrenching experience, i went to marina square to brighten my dejected spirit.

met cass, ak and xinmin. they made me laugh the moment they saw me. had chocolate fondue at haagen dazs. we've been meaning to have chocolate fondue since sec three! that's almost three years! finally, we've savoured the sinful delight!

look at it!

it's sooooo sexy. don't you think so?!

(:

xinmin said that, every bite we took is another intake of five thousand calories. laughs! after finishing the delicious array of food, we took pictures! camwhoring session in progress!

then went for a walk around marina square and citylink. we were fighting for time cause ak had to be home early.

i checked out the price of ipod 80gb that i'm getting. five hundred plus. man, there's hardly any difference from it's price of five hundred and ninety-eight bucks. isn't it great singapore sale?!

shall check out other places! (:

then we all went home. in the mrt, we were thinking of what to wear. it's going to be so exciting on monday, when we have a class outing. we shall all be in wonderful and sexy shades of __________.

byeeeee. i love smun who 2007. i mean world health organisation and not who as in referring to a person. i love my friends. i love my new friends. the rockers of my life! rock on!

finally. i love LAUGHING! but laughing with dearest friends is a definite bonus! ((:

ps. i'm suffering from withdrawal from smun rockers. however, in contrast to withdrawal drug addicts suffer, i don't want this withdrawal to end. cause i treasure them. yeah!

pss. i so got to study!

psss. smun rockers are meeting after common tests! so i must do well, so i've a hundred times more reasons to celebrate with the rest!
